Mechanical engineering is the foundation of all industry, under the vigorous development of current industry; human resources of mechanical design and manufacturing are required for the industry. The Department of Mechanical Engineering develops with intent to have theory and practice, professional ethics and continuous learning capability as a goal. After the students graduate, they may choose research institute of the domestic or foreign university to continue to pursue advanced studies, to participate in the government, or enter the institution to be engaged in each kind of foundation and application research and development. In addition, most of the graduates have encountered to apply their knowledge in a variety of industrial products design, development and analysis, manufacturing and sales. The related industries are such as semiconductor process and equipment industry, optical technology, electrical and electronics industries, tooling, machinery manufacturing, automation industry, aerospace industry, automobile and petrochemical industries. |

The department was established in 1973 under the name of 'Department of Chemical Engineering, Private United Technological School' and primarily recruited two-year school students. In 2003 the institution again changed to become a full university and the department's name became 'Department of Chemical Engineering, National United University', and started recruiting four-year university students. Currently, wehave four-year university program and one master's program. The objectives are teaching both the fundamental and applied courses in ChE, training excellent and skillful professionals for industries and research institutes, and performing researches on the subjects related to Che. |

The current research interests of the department focus on fields in advanced glass materials, fine ceramics, semiconductor and optoelectronic materials, nanoscale functional materials, and processing simulation. The design of the courses covers basic and advanced topics. The students can extend their knowledge in a selected field associated with metal, ceramic, and polymer materials through the elective courses. In addition, senior students are encouraged to participate in research projects supervised by the faculty members. They may also apply for an industry internship to get working experience. The educational quality of the department is certified by the Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan (IEET) in 2007 and 2009. The department has well-experienced teaching staff and well-equipped laboratories. Students after graduation can gain entry into industries of semiconductor, optoelectronic devices, steel manufacturing, glass fabrication, and electronic ceramics. |

Energy is a critical global issue due to gradual depletion of fossil energy and the impact of carbon dioxide emission on environmental and ecological impact. Professionals on energy technology are urgently needs ever before in response to the development of sustainable energy. Our department curriculum is specifically designed to foster sustainable and clean energy-related science and technology personnel. Students base on their own interest to choose the learning path on the material development and manufacturing or on system integration and applications. The curriculum contents both fundamental and professional courses on solar, wind power, fuel cells, energy storage technologies, energy-saving technologies, electric vehicles and so on. These courses are supplemented by experiments and special topic researches. They provide indepth understanding on specific area for students by handson experience. The students also hold several energy camps, participate in various science fairs and competitions. Students are able to apply what they learned to practical application throughout these activities. |
